Bench larva - Neodiprion sertifer
Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA

Size: 13 mm
On a bench in deciduous woods, lots of oak, near wetlands. The ground was covered in leaf fragments dropped by winter moths. Possibly it fell from a tree when its leaf was eaten.

Species ID: Neodiprion sertifer
Coloration and timing (early season) definitely suggests N. sertifer.
