You are correct,
this is Pachyschelus purpureus. It is the only eastern species with patches of setae. The head and pronotum also look black with the elytra blue; all characters which purpureus also has.

For what it's worth...
Pachyschelus looks good to me. Don't know enough to confidently confirm the species (although purpureus does look to be a very close match). Blaine or =v= will know. :)

pass the buck on a challenging one :) I am not too familiar with the genus; they seem to have the same overall color and many seem to overlap in distribution (looking at BG records). Looking at BG, purpureus seems to be the only one with white markings, though. Not sure how to confirm without specimen in-hand. LWe have some buprestid specialists who might be able to help. I'll move to genus for now so they may see it sooner.
