Can this caterpillar be identified? - Hemileuca
St. George, Washington County, Utah, USA

Size: 2"
This caterpillar was found on an Indigo Bush in the Red Cliffs Reserve of Washington County, Utah. The head of the caterpillar is at the top, and is very tiny, barely discernable. Thanks for any help you can give to identify this.

of Hemileuca

Not necessarily this species, but maybe something close? Then again, I'm not a moth expert, and could be way off. Let's see what others think.

Caterpillar identification request
Wow - you're quick! After looking up information regarding the Hemileuca, I'm pretty sure you've nailed it. Even though I'm at the edge of it's territory, the facts seem to fit as well as the photo images, which seem to match exactly - but I'm not a caterpillar expert either! If that's what it is, it will eventually turn into a Burn's Buckmoth, which I can now look for and know from whence it came...! Thanks for your help, as I hadn't been able to find a thing online about it.

Sincerely,
Julie
