Do you have access to the revision?
In 'Six New Neotropical Species of Aquatic Beetles in the Epimetopus costatus Complex (Hydrophilidae: Epimetopinae)' - Philip D. Perkins
The Coleopterists Bulletin Vol. 33, No. 3 (Sep., 1979), pp. 319-325, E. costatus was recorded from near Jasper, AR. Don't know how easy it is to tell the difference between the two as I don't have the revision.

Spot where I found it is about 60 mi E of Jasper.

I can send you the revision if you send me your email...

My pleasure.

When I saw it in the field, I thought it was a small Platytomus or some related scarab. Then when I looked at it in the alcohol vial with a hand lens, I couldn't tell what family it was. Then when I finally scoped it, some of the weird hydrophilids popped into mind and I started to search for images of various genera and finally stumbled upon it.
