Orange Dragonfly - Libellula needhami

Orange Dragonfly - Libellula needhami
Big Branch Marsh Nat'l Wildlife Refuge, Lacombe, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, USA
May 9, 2010
Size: Body about 2.5" long

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Difficult to see what is happening with the wing veins
but with the light color coming far forward on the thorax and the brown legs, we would suggest needhami instead. See Gayle's work here

Likely correct...
J & J. Wing venation would be a great help with a positive ID. Thanks.

Thanks
Thanks for the help to everyone. I don't see these dragonflies often & get opportunities to photograph them even less, so this is the best shot I'd gotten so far. I hope to get one from another angle one of these days!

Golden-winged Skimmer
Libellula auripennis- I am not 100% sure of this ID. We don't often see them in my area. I also think it is a female. I stand corrected if I am wrong. The Needham Skimmer is very close to the Golden-winged in appearance.
