Ophioninae? - Netelia - male

Ophioninae? - Netelia - Male
Marin County, California, USA
May 12, 2010
Size: 18 mm body length
Collected from a Coast Live Oak.

It is hard to see in this photo, but note the small cell called the areolet which is triangular in shape in many genera of ichneumonids, including Netelia (as in this photo). That cell is not present in Ophioninae. Also note that the petiole of Netelia is not cylindrical the way it is in Ophioninae and has a lateral concavity or apodeme at its base called the glymma that isn't present in Ophioninae.

Moved from Ichneumon Wasps.
