Ethmia arctostaphylella? - Ethmia arctostaphylella

Ethmia arctostaphylella? - Ethmia arctostaphylella
Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station, Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
March 30, 2010
This moth is quite abundant at the Field Station and can be regularly found resting on Eriodictyon trichocalyx leaves (as seen here), which I have been told by others is its host plant. I believe that this moth has already been identified in the past as E. arctostaphylella by faculty at the local colleges, but I thought it would be worth posting these photos here on BugGuide in hopes of further confirmation. If the ID is correct, this would be a new species for the guide!

(Sadly, I neglected to take a measurement on this moth. But another specimen from the same area was recorded at 11 - 12 mm.)

Please also see these other posts of specimens from the same area:

Did you get a lateral view useful for identification purposes?

Lateral view
No, I failed on that count, Bob. Sorry! However, there a couple of professors who were also photographing these moths with me and I will ask them if they managed to get a lateral view. If so, I will have them upload the image(s).

Unless you have any objections, I'm going to go ahead and create a new page for this species. (BTW, I think you already know this, but you are welcome to use any of my shots on MPG if you think they will prove useful.)
