Eastern Carpenter Bee - Xylocopa virginica - female

Eastern Carpenter Bee - Xylocopa virginica - Female
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
October 15, 2005
Can anyone tell me why sometimes their eyes are greenish and other times they are jet black? Is this just a lighting thing?

Figured it out
The males have the green eyes, females are black.

Females vs. Males.
Males also have LARGER eyes, and a bright, white or yellow "upper lip." This is a terrific portrait!
