Scarlet-Winged Lichen Moth - Hypoprepia miniata

Scarlet-Winged Lichen Moth - Hypoprepia miniata
Town of Greenbush, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, USA
August 7, 2000
Size: Wingspan: 1-1/8 in.
This beautiful moth was found by my friend, Therese Randall, at her night light. She brought it to me to photograph. ID made from Covell's Field Guide to Moths of Eastern N.A., plate 12, #5.

Striking!
What a beauty! and nicely shot. None of the images in the web has such rich colors.

I know
I've never seen one like this. Very nice shot!

Thank you, Brittanie! Here's a case where it helps to have other eyes on the lookout for you. My dear friend, Therese Randall of Greenbush, Wisconsin brought it to me. I found a lovely specimen here in Door County in 2001, but it got away before I could snap the picture. I was so glad I already had a photo of it from 2000.

Janice J. Stiefel...Thank you, Beatriz. The only difference in the coloration is probably digital vs. Kodachrome slide film.
