May Beetle - Phyllophaga tristis

May Beetle - Phyllophaga tristis
Ackworth, Warren County, Iowa, USA
May 15, 2010
Size: ~2 cm
This beetle had blundered into an ant mound at the edge of my lawn and a grassy old field and was being swarmed when I came along and rescued it. (I released it in an ant-free flower garden after these photos.)
