Small red and black spider - Uloborus glomosus

Small red and black spider - Uloborus glomosus
DeSoto Just south of Dallas, TX, Dallas County, Texas, USA
May 15, 2010
I must admit that I have never seen this species before. Seeing that it has what appears to be eggs I would think it is a female. It is a small spider on the ceiling of the patio. Thanks for your help. I am new to thei I hope the pictures and discriptions are ok.

Most likely Uloborus as John
stated given the shape of the abdomen and the hairy appearance of the legs ending with those looong tips. This is a widely variable animal color-wise. And, yes, those are egg sacs. I should have thought that the female I am currently tracking was somewhat unique in having four sacs, but, obviously, this is not unusual in this species. Uloborus is a non-harmful spider and it can be somewhat exciting to watch the egg sacs hatch and all the little spiderlings come spilling out. Keep an occasional eye on her and the sacs and you will be amply rewarded. Welcome....

Have a look in

She now has 6 egg sacs
Jon I sent you an email with pictures of her and the 6 egg sacs. I have 4 other Uloborus and they all only have 3 egg sacs. I guess she is feeling rather productive. I saw her tending the egg sacs this morning. I did not know she moved about. Yesterday there was only 4 sacs and today there are 6. So she laid 2 sometime yesterday.
