Scarab Beetle
Kooks exactly like a scarab beetle that I photographed on a visit to Texas 2 years ago in May. It was on prickly pear flower - along with several others - a few of which were all black, and a few that were just like your photo here - which possibly suggest two color phases for this species. Hopefully a beetle expert can name it.
