Size: 8-9 mm including "snout"
I see the aftermath of this beetle's work frequently on a wide varitey of helianthoid composites. Here, a couple of pictures of the critter in flagrante delicto.

In fall the cut, but still dangling flower heads often have larvae, presumably of this beetle, in them.

These pictures taken by a friend who sent them to me to share.
