Beetle - Prionus laticollis

Beetle - Prionus laticollis
Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, USA
August 17, 2005
Found in mid August on some type of stump. It looks similar to some of the Prioninae pictures in the guide, but I can't tell which one it is. The thorax has two little points sticking out on each side and there is a considerable amount of hair coming out from the underneath.

Prionus laticollis?
After comparing other images, it seems that the eyes are too far apart to be pocularis.

Prionus
Looks like a longhorned beetle in the genus Prionus. Prionus laticollis is the one most usually encountered, but you also might want to look at P. pocularis before deciding.

Still stuck
Thanks for the help. I don't really know what I'm looking for to tell between the two. The info in the guide refers to the pocularis as having the female metasternum hairy while the laticollis's is smooth. I'm not sure if that means that both have hair on the rest of the thorax or not and I didn't pick up the beetle to see where the hair was actually coming from. Also this beetle doesn't seem to be brown like the pocularis is described as being.
