black larva on goldenrod -
Trirhabda
Ackworth, Warren County, Iowa, USA
May 22, 2010
Size: ~ 6 mm
Lone individual crawling on stem and leaves of Tall Goldenrod (
Solidago altissima
) in grassy old field. Color is black with brown between ridged segments and a slight "oily" sheen.

Looks like some kind of Chrysomelid beetle larva... Probably

. I thought these looked familar...then I recalled working much of last winter identifying the
host plants for numerous unidentified photo-specimens
