Trox gemmulatus

Trox gemmulatus
Santa Barbara County, California, USA
February 22, 2007
Size: ~1cm
Trox on coyote feces. The individuals shown match those previously identified as Trox gemmulatus observed at the same time of year on coyote feces in the same area. I included this picture to illustrate the aggregations I often come across. Feel free to frass it if it does not contribute anything; it does not show much detail of the beetles themselves.

Moved from Hide Beetles.

Trox gemmulatus
This is the common way this species is taken--coyote scats in winter after rains. Very nice photo!
