moth - Pleurota albastrigulella

moth - Pleurota albastrigulella
Crystal Cove, Orange County, California, USA
May 22, 2010
I think it had a crambid-esque snout, but got blurred out of the photo possibly due to movement.

Moved from Gelechioidea.

Tentative ID. Sent this to Terry Harrison who agrees that this appears to represent P. albastrigulella. Nice work. It pointed me in the right direction for one of Mark's images as well.

Thanks for looking into this one!
Great to see a couple of live images in the guide now for this species. Hope I can find this one again some time for better quality pics.

Moved
Moved from Moths.

Pyralidae
I'm not sure it's a pyralid but if it is, it's probably in Peoriini.

or maybe a gelechoid?
Pleurota albastrigulella is similar but cant find any live images. If the palps were in focus on this shot it would be a much easier call.

I Agree
I thought those white marks near the end of the palps were artifacts but I am fairly sure that you are correct and that those are in fact the ends of the palps. Nice!

There are images on the web of other species within Pleurota from outside North America and your image looks good to me for that genus. I'm going to see if I can get an expert opinion on this. In the meantime you can check out images at British Lepidoptera here
