What caught my eye were the brushy area around the mouth and the green wings. Do you know what this insect is?

It's some kind of male midge. The brushy stuff are his antennae.

I'm originally from a small town in Ohio, by Lake Erie, and we used to call these Canadian Soldiers. They would invade by the millions, our houses would be covered with them - then one morning you'd wake up and they would be dead by the thousands.
