Philoscia muscorum, but lacking antennal flagella - Philoscia muscorum

Philoscia muscorum, but lacking antennal flagella - Philoscia muscorum
Coram, Suffolk County, New York, USA
May 23, 2010
Bizarrely, this specimen of Philoscia muscorum is missing both of its antennal flagella, which have apparently been reduced to stumps. The result of an attack by a predator? Any other explanations?
