Leafhopper on water - Ceratagallia uhleri

Leafhopper on water - Ceratagallia uhleri
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
March 2, 2010
This leafhopper was floating on top of a small truck tire-track puddle, a remnant of Clark Dry Lake which had water in it this year and had just dried up. There were a few other insects floating on this water, but all seemed dead but this one. I fished him out and took his photo and he leaped off.
It's quite beautiful with a opalescence and a coppery glow.

How great to get another leafhopper not only to genus but to species! How fascinating that there are migratory leafhoppers! I want to learn more about them. Thanks you so much, Dr. Hamilton!
