Mantid? - Mantis religiosa - female

Mantid? - Mantis religiosa - Female
Hermiston, Umatilla County, Oregon, USA
August 7, 2008
Size: 3-4"
I rescued this guy from the side of a concrete building and decided to put him into my mom's tomato garden. There were lots of bugs for it to eat. I know it's a praying mantis, but I don't have a clue as to male/femal/genus ect. It didn't change colors as long as I watched it and took pictures. It wasn't very aggressive with me, but it may have been a little cold for it. I'm sorry the picture is older, but I have so many I'm wading through. I greatly enjoy insect pictures and photography. I also like to share. :) Thanks for any help you may give!

Without a doubt. That arm spot is diagnostic. Here's one that looks just like it from Colorado. Yours looks bulky enough to me that I suspect it might be female. Don't hold me to that though.
