Fungus Beetle??? - Rhinocyllus conicus

Fungus Beetle??? - Rhinocyllus conicus
Calgary, Southern, Alberta, Canada
May 21, 2005
Size: ~5 mm
These beetles show up every year around the same time.

Moved from Fungus Weevils.

another useful species from Europe
Hi, this is Rhinocyllus conicus (subfamily Cleoninae), imported for biological control of thistles. The unusually short rostrum sure can be misleading . . .

Sure looks like Anthribidae
I'd say Tropideres sp., maybe dorsalis

This is probably a snout beetle of some sort, but probably not a true weevil in the Curculionidae.
