Cobra Clubtail, female - Gomphurus vastus - female

Cobra Clubtail, female - Gomphurus vastus - Female
Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge, Knox County, Tennessee, USA
May 30, 2010
I believe this may be a Sable Clubtail (Gomphus rogersi) but I can't find anything definitive in books or online to convince me that it is not either a Cherokee or Splendid Clubtail.

Gomphus vastus
This is indeed subgenus Gomphurus. This is actually a female Cobra Clubtail (Gomphus vastus). Note the stripes across the face, dorsal abdominal markings up to S7, and small lateral spots on S8. Sable Clubtail (G. rogersi) has straight dorsal thoracic stripes and no club, and is actually in a different subgenus, Stenogomphurus.
