Interspecies relationship? - Eleodes marginata

Interspecies relationship? - Eleodes marginata
McClures Beach, Point Reyes, Marin County, California, USA
May 30, 2010
Size: 15-20 mm body length
I found these beetles crossing a trail, and noticed they looked pretty different from each other. I figured it was just due to sexual dimorphism, but then I found the pair of beetles pictured below that both look the same, and now I'm thinking the mismatched pair might be different species.

Moved, E.marginatus looks right to me!

based upon the sort of oblique dorsal shot
I'm pretty confident this is Eleodes (Discogenia)marginatus

Thanks!
For both of them, right?

Moved
Moved from Darkling Beetles.

you didn't bother to take a dorsal shot [of either], did you?
:)

Didn't get a straight dorsal shot...
I was too busy trying to get photos that showed they were different, and I spaced on getting a good dorsal shot. I can add a slightly better one though.
