Dilley Hoppers: Juvenile Gonzo needs ID - Scolops pallidus
Dilley Greenbelt Preserve, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, USA

Shot on Indian Milkweed, next to a lighter specimen which is posted separately.

Best guess is that this is the juvenile form of an adult found just down the street:

You lucky dog!
A very cool find.

I'm on a roll with hoppers these days.
They are fun to shoot, and the bigger guys are much easier to approach then the blue-green sharpshooters that are so common around here.

Far out!
I really dig the striped eyeballs on this one, man...

I was surprised to see that, too.
Hope to find more of these. Finally, I can get down on the ground - and back up! - so I could shoot these better than when we were there two days earlier.

LOL!
Gotta love the Muppet character reference ;-) Kermit: "Gonzo, what are you doing?" Gonzo (floating away on balloons): "About 7 knotts!"

I totally remember that line!
I half expected to find this awesome look-alike hopper toting around a very tiny female chicken "companion", but alas Camilla was nowhere to be found! ;-)

Oh, was that the cluckin' white thing I saw?
Had it four more legs, I would have captured the image for ID.
