Dilley Hoppers: Dusky adult seeks ID - Cuerna occidentalis

Dilley Hoppers: Dusky adult seeks ID - Cuerna occidentalis
Dilley Greenbelt Preserve, Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, USA
May 29, 2010
A bunch of these were on the trail, and I almost stepped on them until alerted by Harsi, who was already in position to shoot. An important characteristic of these were big eyes, which I failed to capture in pixels. Second shot, when viewed with a bit of imagination, helps get that idea across.

We think this is the juvenile version, found same time, same place:

Moved from Cuerna unica.

Presume these nymphs should be moved too?
Hey Kyle. Ron and I photographed these nymphs that same day on the same patch of trail. Any reason why they shouldn't be moved as well?

I think so, they should be moved as well. Nice!

Good deal. Thanks, Kyle.

Cuerna unica
The only brown Cuerna; presumably its host is some desert plant such as yucca (for example, a related species is known from Joshua tree, which is a yucca).

No large plants near this part of the trail
Low brush. Yucca and other desert plants are in the area.
