not same specimen
Ran across your comment just now and was going to link the images, but if you look at details of the markings, these are not actually the same specimen. A pity this subspecies is gone.

Sweet!
Wow, that is one rare beetle! Yep, this subspecies is indeed presumed extinct. It was found only on beaches of South Padre Island near Port Isabel, and hasn't been seen there in decades. The species does still exist along the gulf coast of Mexico.

I just love the prodigiously long legs of this beach specialist.

That makes them all the more valuable.
