From caterpillar on wild ginger - Herpetogramma aeglealis

From caterpillar on wild ginger - Herpetogramma aeglealis
Opossum Creek Retreat, Fayette County, West Virginia, USA
June 1, 2010
Size: ~14 mm, wingspan: ~30 mm
It pupated and emerged when I was away so I missed all the fun. It is still alive and kicking; really kicking that is how it lost its dorsal scales. I had to sedate it a little in fact. It would be nice to know who feeds on wild ginger, besides pipevine swallowtail, that is.
To my untrained eye it looks like a pyralid.
