Gall Midges (Cecidomyiinae) emerging from galls
Dry Lake Valley (20 miles NE of Las Vegas), Clark (Las Vegas) County, Nevada, USA
May 12, 2010
These dipterans seem to be emerging from galls in the stem of a small catclaw acacia (Acacia greggii) shrub

I just got an email from Ray
I just got an email from Ray Gagne, and he wrote:
"In my notes for my red book revision, I see that someone has already sent me spns from California and that the gallmaker is evidently new to science. Ray"

Specimens in alcohol
I did not collect any specimens, but I could recover the acacia branch and the old galls if that would be helpful.

Subfamily
The gall midges proper are subfamily Cecidomyiinae and these can move to that page

. The other two subfamilies are really fungus gnats and do not form plant galls.
