Size: 3.25mm
Emerged from dead stem of Centaurea solstitialis from previous year. One other also emerged, stem piece was about ten inches long.
Looks like Cylindrocopturus adspersus. Confirmation appreciated.

ID confirmed by H.A. Hespenheide: "currently C. adspersus s.l.
"...although things under that name probably represent more than one species."

Moved from Cylindrocopturus.

for the detective work. Almost time to go out and collect more dead plants to see what may emerge through the year. Trying to target what might be utilizing "noxious" weeds.

Invasives
are most likely to get ranked as noxious weeds. A native plant might be classed as such by some agencies when it impacts agricultural interests. Most of the worst players have associated biocontrol insects. It could interesting to see what other insect species are utilizing the targeted weeds.
