Damsel bug? - Nabis alternatus

Damsel bug? - Nabis alternatus
Alameda County, California, USA
June 3, 2010
Size: 6.3 mm bl
Found in a spider web and released. Possibly the same as , Nabis, found two days earlier.

Nabis (Reduviolus) alternatus
According to Benedict & Cothran (1975), N. alternatus has two isolated yellow spots on the dark scutellum, whereas the spots prolong posteriorly and become confluent at the apex in N. americoferus. This identification of this image is certainly not 100% but it is a good representation of one of the potential (and rare) visual cues in a complicated genus.
