Very large caterpillar with hairy face - Antheraea polyphemus

Very large caterpillar with hairy face - Antheraea polyphemus
Waco, McLennan County, Texas, USA
June 5, 2010
Size: approx. 2.5 in.
We found this guy crawling down a large live oak tree around noon today. We would love to know what it will turn in to. It is very large, and as big around as your middle finger. It has fine hairs on its body in patches, two each and a very hairy face (which is pulled in in this photo). Seems to be pretty active and it has a gold spot on its back. Please identify. Thanks!
