Melanoplus sp.? - Oedaleonotus phryneicus - male

Melanoplus sp.? - Oedaleonotus phryneicus - Male
Santa Barbara County, California, USA
June 4, 2010
Size: ~1.5cm
Found passable in situ shot going through my photos. Mate to . Found in weedy sandy clearings in Burton Mesa chaparral. Close ups of male anatomy were taken of a different male from the same locality.

Sorry about the delay in getting to these.
I wanted to make sure I checked into these as fully as possible. Based on the literature I went through, this is a perfect fit for Oedaleonotus phryneicus, which is probably just a color form or variant of O. tenuipennis, differing apparently only in having the pale spot near the top edge of the sides of the pronotum. Very similar to both Melanoplus and Aeoloplides.

Now, on to Conozoa, hi-ho-silver, and all that. It may take a couple of more days for those, the literature is a confusing contradictory mess.

Thanks!
Thanks for the ID :o) Let me know if you need any additional shots of the Conozoa.
