I've been doing some digging on this topic recently and have concluded that both duskywings I've posted are Funereal. On a count today, I saw a bunch more and feel these are also Funereal. At least in Orange County, Mournfuls are scare.

Yours looks different than mine, and I'll bet yours is Mournful. But hey, that's just gut feel.

Have you seen "The Butterflies of Orange County, Californa" by Larry J. Orszak? Published in the seventies, it's the standard source for this area. He states that it is "extremely difficult" to distinguish type without genitalic dissection and shows line art views of male genitalia. (I could email if you're interested.)

I assume you already know that from Arizona east the two are more easily distinguished, as described in "Butterflies Through Binoculars: The West." Oh, the penalties of living in The Golden State.
