Moth unknown - Hyalophora euryalus

Moth unknown - Hyalophora euryalus
Volcano, Amador County, California, USA
June 7, 2010
Size: body 1 1/2 inches
I saw it on the side of the house and grabbed the camera. This was one big moth. Body was about 1 1/2 inches, body width close to 1/2 inch. Location is Amador County at 4,000 feet and heavily forested.
***Note*** I think it was laying eggs.
Photo taken with Canon 50D, 10-22mm lens @ 22mm.

Euryalus?
I believe this is one of those weird moths that has no identity, meaning - its shows characteristics of both gloveri and euryalus. the body looks very much like a gloveri, where as the wings are almost flawless euryalus. Bill and i had a very indepth conversation about natural hybrids and variation between species and areas. seeing how this moth was located in the forest of Amador California, it could possibly be a "blend" or contain genes of more than one species of moth!
