Hare Figwort bug and balls - Cionus scrophulariae

Size: 1/4 inch, about
i was looking for the wildflower Hare Figwort, and found several specimens damaged by insect feeding and plastered with these small shiny balls where the blossoms should have been. After enlarging the photo on my computer screen I noticed the bug. I can't figure out that flattened thing behind the bug. Is it a sac that the bug may be filling with eggs? Anybody know what this bug is and what it's doing? Are those translucent shiny balls related to what the bug's doing? Thanks for any info.

i know the 'bug', a eurotramp weevil /figwort specialist
but cannot comment on the balls; i'm pretty sure those are not caused by this weevil [i may be mistaken] -- and they don't look like fruit at all

Thanks so much for the Figwort Weevil Id. Using your information, I browsed around on the web and found photos of this weevil's pupa cases that look exactly like the shiny balls in my photo. Here's one site where you can see them: www.scrubmuncher.files.wordpress.com. Go to the post for August 27, 2009 and see a wasp parasitizing the pupa case.
