Holarctic + adjacent montane Oriental(3)
Habitat
cool damp woods and ravines(3)
Food
mostly snails, some commonly feed on slugs; may also feed on caterpillars, worms and other soft-bodied prey(4); head adapted for going into snail's shell.
Remarks
Wings reduced; elytra fused. Most species stridulate when disturbed.(4)
