Gomphidae - Arigomphus furcifer

Gomphidae - Arigomphus furcifer
Central Ontario, Ontario, Canada
May 31, 2005
Can anyone identify this dragonfly down further?

I am moving it to
Gompidae page for now. If there are no other suggestions as to species I will move it to the species page at a later date.

Whoops!
My apologies the date was actually june 1st :)

Excellent image
I doubt if you can ever get a 100% correct ID. Appears to have emerged within the previous 30 mins. It's a female and the very long S9 and S10, coupled with emergence on a lily pad leads me to think it's a Lilypad Clubtail Arigomphus furcifer. One problem I see is the emergence date, 25 July seems awfully late for this species.

We notice that your image identifier
says June 1, 2005. Is there some confusion on dates that may satisfy Tony's concern regarding emergence date?

A date may help
