Wolf Spider - Tigrosa aspersa

Wolf Spider - Tigrosa aspersa
Near Douthat State Park, Alleghany County, Virginia, USA
June 12, 2010
The photograph was taken not far from the park. After reviewing the article on eye patterns, it appears to be a wolf spider. As you can see it is fairly large with a tick on the abdomen. Any help identifying genus and species will be much appreciated.

Yes.
If very large, likely a species of Hogna.

Hogna aspersa
Dr. Art Evans, entomologist, has suggested Hogna aspersa as an id. Using the web links on this site, that seems a logical choice. She was HUGE, honestly the largest spider I have personally ever seen.
