Crab spider on sunflower at TX mini-gathering - Mecaphesa dubia
Resaca de la Palma State Park, Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas, USA
June 4, 2010
Size: Under 1/2 inch
This gorgeous spider blended in perfectly with the sunflower! If it hadn't been a little bit away from the brown center of the flower, I'd never have seen it.

Moved
Moved from possible dubia.

M. dubia
I think we can declare this M. dubia now, based on the specimen I just uploaded:

Moved
Moved from Mecaphesa.

Possible dubia
I betcha this is Mecaphesa dubia. I'm thinking those two-tone lateral abdomenal stripes are a give-away. They are dark below and become reddish above. The reddish pinching mark on the anterior dorsum is also common with this species. Possible dubia.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

We would suggest Misumenops,
but we don't know how to ID to species yet
