Variable, basal area light gray/brown, median area white or grayish (1).
Holarctic. The North American subspecies is Dysstroma truncata transversata. In east, found from Labrador south to North Carolina mountains, west to Missouri, and also across Canada. Also widespread in western North America (2).
Larvae feed on foliage of alders, Alnus, willows, Salix and other woody plants, as well as on forbs.
