Western/Pacific Cicada Killer Wasp - Sphecius grandis Lake Roosevelt, Ferry County, Washington, USA July 5, 2009
At first I took this to be a Western Cicada Wasp S. grandis on account of apparent yellow patches on the last few tergites but looking closer it's more like ochre, and the punctation of the first few tergites and flat to convex flagellomeres make me think maybe convallis. In any case I thought it would be good to share an observation from Washington.
