We (Debbi B.) and I saw five of these on just a short hike, all on yellow mariposa lilies. This one is preying on one of the ubiquitous small beetles that you see in all sorts of spring wildflowers around here.

Yes.
Definitely a bee assassin. I haven't seen the latest breakdown of species so will stop there :-) Great shots!
