I'm thinking this is C. confl
I'm thinking this is C. confluens as it fits the couplet stating that the elytra are virtually dichromatic; either entirely deep blue or blue-green or pale and maculate with the standard pattern.

thanks John -- I'll go with that. There's a photo at the SBMNH that matches the patterned male fairly well. (I know Chrysomela can show a lot of variation within a species ... I guess it's good I got two at once that are different colors.)

 
I noticed with the type speci
I noticed with the type specimen you had a link to that the dark markings have a metallic blue sheen to them so that adds to the confirmation of what it likely is.
