Shape?
I can't quite tell--are these compressed spheres (which would mean they're
Eumenes
nests) or cylinders (in which case there are a few options)?

That is one of the options I had in mind...
and seems most likely, given that these were close to the other one. Spider wasps (Auplopodini) or maybe
Ancistrocerus
potter wasps would be other options, but the rounded shape of these nests seems to match that
