green stink bugs - Chlorochroa rossiana - Male Female
Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington, USA
June 13, 2010
Chinavia hilaris?

They never did mate, but the male followed the female around bumping his head under her abdomen. One of them dropped little spots of fluid on the leaf. The male here is the one on the right.

Found on lilac.

Great! :)
Hey v, maybe you could ask about the color differences. I'd like to know if there is any reason they can be green, brown or black. Is it a regional difference or what? Thanks!

offnahd: not regional.
any green pigments used by insects are extremely prone to decay, the same way they tend to fade/discolor in preserved state.
most green[ish] chrysopids, orthopterans, heteropterans, &c are subject to physiological/lifecycle/seasonal color changes.
briefly, they wear cheapest stuff around.

I don't think so.
Reminds me more of a species of Chlorochroa given the orange border and spot on the scutellum.

Chlorochroa
Yes that does look better.
