There are lots of confusing syrphids, even some evil twins
Apparently, you got this to genus on your own, which is good. Toxomerus is one of the easiest to get to species. Have you seen this in the Info section?

To make this ridiculously easy, Toxomerus marginatus, the most common of the genus, is the only one with a dot near the end of its abdomen.

Now, for something tougher: A set of the evil twins. Once again, Martin Hauser comes to our aid:


Self-test: Search on Scaeva pyrastri. You'll get a lot of images, some correctly IDed, some wrongly IDed, and some not yet IDed. See if you can figure them out, then click on the image to see how you did.
