Cicada with white underparts--Cacama? - Cacama valvata

Cicada with white underparts--Cacama? - Cacama valvata
Española, New Mexico, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, USA
June 17, 2010
Size: 2.5 cm body length
When I saw it, it was clinging to a fencepost right next to this male. It had climbed higher by the time I got close enough for a picture, and this is the only one I got before it flew away.

I'm assuming this is a female because the tip of the abdomen is shaped differently from the male's and because it doesn't have those thingamajigs that cover the, uh, tymbals?

Thanks for the ID and the interesting information.

Cacama valvata
the whitish color is a "bloom" of wax that develops as cicadas mature
