Resaca de la Palma State Park, Cameron County, Texas, USA

Unknown spider discovered outside of the park visitor's center this morning. No other side or ventral pictures were taken by the intern, who has consented to let me post it here.

I hope you don't mind I rotated and cropped your image for easier viewing.

Possible A. blanda
Moved from Silver Argiope.

Hi Katherine. Assuming this specimen is an adult (which we don't know without a ventral view) it is likely A. blanda. A. blanda is very similar to A. argentata except that the points on the abomen are less rounded and it is only found in the US at the very southern tip of TX.

I'm placing this image here tentatively to use a placeholder for this species. If you find more of these, could you take both dorsal & ventral shots next time? Thanks!

Wow!
You were holding out on us, Katherine. LOL! Very nice specimen of Argiope argentata, the "silver argiope."
