We had just stopped at the Palisades Ranger Station when Eric spotted this flying through the car.

Moved from ID Request.

Buprestis lyrata
I agree with Will...Buprestis lyrata.

:-)
Good thing I was in the back seat. LOL! Might not even have seen it, let alone captured it, otherwise.

Why don't I have luck like that? Just sitting there and having a Buprestis fly in the window of my car...

I can ID it if you want to send it to me. But off hand I'd say Buprestis lyrata

Thanks
Nice try (-:

Since I'm studying Buprestids
Since I'm studying Buprestids, I'm always trying to add to my reference collection. Buprestis is something I'm seriously lacking in. I only have B. lineata and B. laeviventris (which actually someone on bugguide sent me)

This is my very first one, too
so for now, I'll keep it )-:

Fair enough! Are there any groups you'd like me to keep and eye out for?

What I am collecting
is basically photos (my dorsal ones on white) of all AZ beetle spp. and voucher specimens thereof. I'm still dreaming of putting them together as a AZ Beetle Atlas, nothing comprehensive, but with around 1000 good sp photos and examples of all families. When that's done I'll start looking beyond AZ again

I have a nice Chrysina beyeri
I have a nice Chrysina beyeri you could have, on the small chance you don't have one already. If you ever find extra bups that you don't need, I'd love them. If I'm ever in AZ, maybe we can go out collecting together!

I just got a bunch of Chryobothris
from mesquite, check out my posts. I also have a bunch that I raised last year from Palo Verde logs. You can have those (they are frozen) and try to id them. That would be great. thanks for the Chrysina offer, I have the three spp. Let me know if and when you'll get to AZ - I don't know a good time for all Bups in general but Gyascutus and Hippomelas are pretty reliable in late summer in certain places

Thanks! I don't want to steel
Thanks! I don't want to steel any you promised to Joshua, but if you could send the extras to me, that would be great. Just email me at willc-t@ku.edu and I'll give you my address.

Thanks a lot

Will

No, there are enough of the same
for all three of us

Took a look at the one you go
Took a look at the one you got on Mesquite. I can't say for certain from the pic, but I'm sure I could ID the specimen

Buprestis
i'm a dummy in this group, but the Eurasian spp. are much easier to ID when you see the belly, too
